It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce the passing of our much loved long-serving Treasurer Jane Browne who died at home with her family at her bedside on Saturday afternoon. Jane had fought a long and courageous battle against cancer and was still working for the Club from her sick bed only a month or so ago.
SC Chairman Jim Chappell said that he ‘had known and worked with Jane since the formation of the ‘Pirates’ teenage organisation 45 years ago when they shared sales duties before matches at Eastville. Jane was one of the first ‘Pirates’ members to graduate onto the Supporters Club’s main committee in the 1970’s and has continued to serve ever since – an unbroken spell of over thirty years right up until the last few weeks. Through the Club’s Share Scheme agreement Jane was elected as the first female supporters Director on the Rovers Board, something I know that she was so proud of and that we were equally proud of as friends and colleagues. No one person has ever done more for the Supporters Club or for that matter the Football Club since our foundation. I have lost a great friend and the Rovers a true and loyal servant who can never be fully replaced’.
The Committee wishes to extend its sincere condolences to Jane’s Mum, her loving husband Wes, daughter Lucy and all the rest of her family during this sad time.
Funeral arrangements are still to be advised.
