New equipment donated by BRSC
January 1, 2000
Bristol Rovers Supporters Club has donated £7,000 for new equipment used in players’ fitness training and youth development.
Fitness coach Lee Southernwood is delighted with the new equipment, which includes a personal digital assistant to measure live heart rates on the training ground, hydration monitor, boxing equipment and various items of weight training equipment. In addition, money was used to fund VO2 max fitness testing, to gauge the players’ fitness levels when they returned from the summer break. Our picture shows new signing Gary Sawyer going through his paces on the equipment.
The 50/50 draw money has also paid £2,500 for new goalposts for the training ground and also a small gantry to enable under 18 matches to be filmed from a good vantage point.
Supporters Club chairman Jim Chappell said:
“The purchase of all this new equipment has been funded by our 50/50 half-time draw. It follows on from our purchase last summer of the luxury coach for the youth team and a subsequent servicing deal for the vehicle.
“We will also be looking to make further equipment purchases for Rovers’ Centre of Excellence in the coming months and shows that the Supporters Club is firmly behind the current management’s commitment to youth development.
“The Supporters Club’s Weston-Super-Mare Branch, known as ‘Weston Gas’, is already sponsoring Rovers’ Midlands Youth team and the 50/50 fund will also be providing further funds as this highly successful venture expands during the coming season. I would like to thank everyone who buys a ticket on match days and our sellers who stand out in all winds and weathers to promote the draw.”
The Supporters Club has also made a £1,000 donation to the newly formed Midlands based Bristol Rovers Central, which has chief scout Paul Molesworth in charge as Director of Football. The team will play its games at Henley-in-Arden. Their kit has been paid for by the Supporters Club which is sponsoring the Centrals’ U18 team, while Weston-super-Mare Gas has sponsored the U15 team.
