Charity walk completed

January 1, 2000

Ken Masters today completed his West Country charity trek.

The BRSC Vice Chairman and Rovers director returned to the Memorial Stadium this afternoon to a hero’s welcome, after more than 61 hours of walking.

Ken got a rousing reception from both sets of fans as he came pitch side before the start of today’s game.

He has walked 180 miles between Bristol Rovers, Yeovil Town and Exeter City in memory of Adam Stansfield.

The walk coincided with Rovers visit to Yeovil last Saturday and Exeter’s trip to the Memorial Stadium today.

Now that he is finished, he is looking forward to putting his feet up and spending some time with his wife.

Although his wish for three points from this afternoon’s game was not granted.

Ken told before the game: “There have been highs and lows but I am glad it is over and I am glad that I have done it.

“The high point for me was definitely meeting Adam’s dad, as that really reminded me why I was doing it.

“It was a long way, and my legs are hurting, but it was all for a great cause and I am glad that I have been able to do this.

“I have been away for two weeks, so I am looking forward to spending some time with my wife and having a bit of a rest.”

Now Ken has completed this massive challenge he is appealing again for people to donate money to the Adam Stansfield Foundation.

He said: “I would like to thank all those people who have already supported me and donated some money.

“It is for a great cause in memory of a great man, and I would ask that anyone who can afford to donate does so.

“We will be keeping the appeal running until the end of the season, so there is plenty of time left to donate.”

The Adam Stanfield Football Foundation has been set-up to support and encourage participation in youth football across the South West region.

The Foundation has been formed in memory of Adam who died on August 10 last year at the age of just 31 from bowel cancer.

Ken, 66, whose wife has recently recovered from a major bowel operation, wanted to do something to raise money for the Foundation for some time.

A Just Giving page is currently being set up for those wishing to donate to the cause, but in the meantime, anyone who would like to offer donations or a bed for the night should contact Kirsty Pugh at the club on 0117 9524003 or email [email protected]
