Letter of Thanks
January 1, 2000
Many thanks for the hospitality showed to all of us at Wells City Football Club, especially the under 10’s and 11’s, for many of which this was their first professional match.
The game will stay in the memory of the lads for a very long time and I am confident that a few new junior Gas-heads were converted during the trip. If ever a script could have been written for the lads first match then this was it. A cagey first half had the lads wondering if they were to see a goal. As soon as the second half kicked off with Rovers playing towards us in the XXXX stand we all sensed something was about to happen, and the Gas never disappointed. Two second half goals for Stuart Nicholson right in front of us, both superb finishes, got the lads on their feet and with a little singing lesson from my son Toby, the lads were soon in full voice with chorus’ of Goodnight Irene.
Toby was relieved that the Rovers did the business as he was dreading some stick at school had they lost, but all’s well that ends well and several of the lads insisted we went in the club shop after the game for souvenirs of the trip.
Many thanks once again for the opportunity of the coach trip to Rovers and please pass on my thanks to everyone at the club and at Eagle Coaches for providing an excellent opportunity for junior players to enjoy a brilliant day out, an excellent initiative from an excellent club.
