Gas Girls Share The Points
August 22, 2005
[image1] Yesterday saw the Gas Girls, or Bristol Academy as they are now known, sharing the points in their match against Fulham ladies. Manager Gary Greene was disappointed to only get a point but was honest enough to admit Fulham probably should have won.
With over half the side being new arrivals at the Academy this season, it is obviously going to take time for them to gell as a team but Gary said there is work to do both in attack and in tightening up the defence if they are to acheive a top three place this season.
This Sunday provides a stern test with the girls at home to Arsenal – k/o 2.00 pm at Mangotsfield Utd FC.
Arsenal have a star-studded side with full internationals in virtually every position.
Gary Green has been working hard this summer and has attracted internationals in virtually every position as well.
Just today we have heard that ‘keeper Siobhan Chamberlain has earned a call-up for the World Cup qualifier away to Austria on 1st September with skipper Katie Holtham on standby.
Katie seems to have jumped straight from U19 skipper to the full international set-up.
Added to this we have England U21 internationals in Rachael Axon, Shelly Cox and Danni Bird as well as full Irish internationals in Claire Scanlan and Grainne Kierans as well as the Welsh internationals, Emma Jones, Kath Morgan amd Michelle Green.
The GasGirls are striving for a top three finish and with the abundance of talent now available to Gary Green this should not be unrealistic.
So, roll up to Cossham Street this Sunday – usual admission prices – £3 for adults and £1 concessions. [banner1]
