Running With Rovers This Sunday
September 30, 2005
This weekend sees the Bristol half marathon taking place around the streets of Bristol, and with Gasheads taking part it’s a chance to go along and give them your support.
The Supporters Club Commercial sub committee member Ken Masters pounded the stadium looking for volunteers during the build up to the event but sadly many were disappointed as Rovers only managed to get about half the places we had volunteers for.
The Rovers runners will be raising money to be divided equally between providing funding for a creche at the Mem and helping to provide sports equipment for local schools.
The Half Marathon will start at Broad Quay (The Centre) this coming Sunday at 9:30am. The runners will then do a loop around around the Centre to Baldwin Street, Queen Charlotte Street, St Stephen Street, then back into the Centre to follow the road to Anchor Road and out towards the Portway. The race will proceed along the Portway as far as Sylvan Way which is the turning point for the race to come back into Bristol. When the runners come to Cumberland Basin, they will then veer right to go along Cumberland Road aiming for Redcliffe Way, Victoria Street, the Castle Park Area, over Redcliffe Bridge to make their way into the City Centre for the finish.
So as you see, plenty of places to see the race, although along most of the route, parking will be at a premium due to road closures.
You can see a copy of the route by going on-line at www.bristol-city.gov.uk/sports/pdf/bhm_coursemap05.pdf.
Good luck to all our runners, we look forward to seeing your times, which will appear here when they get sent in.
