Green Un 5th November

November 6, 2005

After last Saturday’s disappointing trip to Cheshire, today we have made the long trip to Grimsby for our 1st round FA Cup tie. It’s the last cup competition we are still in this season, and everyone knows just how important it is to us all.

Last week at Macclesfield, we faced the bottom of the table club and went there confident of bringing back some points to build on our fortuitous home win against Wrexham the previous week in the dying minutes of the game. Sadly, it seemed the home side had been buoyed by their win against league one opposition in the LDV and they managed to take all the points against a Rovers side that really looked out of sorts. It’s frustrating for the fans to be witness to a last gasp win like we did the previous week and then see the same team almost looking like strangers at times a week later. It is becoming obvious that the manager situation needs to be concluded for a number of reasons not least of which is it will finally put an end to the constant speculation, which pretty much suggests any manager currently without a club could ‘Do a job at Rovers’.

As for the Supporters club, things have been particularly quiet this week on the committee front. Monday saw the social committee holding their film and TV quiz in the Bristol Room. Whilst at Macclesfield I noticed a few adverts for it on some of their walls at the ground. I’d be interested to know if anyone actually came down!
The social committee also met last week and plans are moving forward for the 50th anniversary evening of Rovers 4 Man Utd 0 in the FA Cup back in 1956. A great evening is planned, but we want to hear from Gasheads who were there to witness the Busby babes being humbled by the Gas. We want to hear your stories and we are also putting a display together for the evening of memorabilia of that time. One thing that is currently missing is a match ticket. Do you have one we can borrow? If you would like to write about your experience on the day or lend us anything from the time or even the era please get in touch with me via either 199 or Pirate Leisure, or even via this column. Thank you in anticipation.

With Christmas really coming upon us fast now, the new lines for our shops are starting to come into stock. More information and pictures will be on our web site; as it becomes available. There are some great new lines and new ideas for gifts for the Gashead who thought he had everything.

Finally, you will remember that last week we announced that fans director Jane Browne had decided to step down from the board of Bristol Rovers. As a result of this the committee met and decided that Kim Stuckey should be moved from his position as Associate Director to the full Director position with immediate effect. Announcements have been made on our web site as to what criteria those wishing to stand for this position have to fill and by Monday we will have confirmation as to who has put their name forward to stand for election.

Another consequence of this recent event is the Supporters Club AGM has had to be put back one week from the original date published which was Thursday 24th November. It will now be held on Thursday 1st December, time to be announced. There are no elections for committee this year as there were no new nominations, so that will help to keep the evening a little briefer.
More news next week.
