[image1] On Thursday December 1st at the Supporters Club AGM, a fans Associate director election will be held. Both candidates have made written submissions and both have agreed to take part in an Open Forum evening on Monday 21st November, in the executive lounge in the clubhouse, starting at 7.30 pm.
Neither candidate will make a verbal address on the night of the AGM, so this will be the only opportunity to meet them and ask them any questions you may have. All those eligible to vote are invited and we hope to see you there.
Submission for David Brain to stand to represent Bristol Rovers Supporters Club as Associate Director
I have missed only 6 home games since 1966 and go to most away games. I have been a member of the supporters club for many of those years and a member of the BRSC Executive Committee. I started selling lottery tickets for the club in the early 70’s. On match day’s I sell, 50/50 tickets, programmes and merchandise in addition to promoting the share scheme. I have been on the Share Scheme Committee for almost 3 years and became Chairman earlier this year. During this time I have probably signed up more members than anyone else. I have been a member of Kevin Spencer’s Commercial Group Committee and Colin Williams ‘Fill the Ground’ working group committees. During this time I have become well known to many fans and also have a good rapport with the Directors. I see communicating with fellow supporters and keeping them informed of relevant information a key role of the Associate Director.
I will continue to promote the Share Scheme which is a vital income stream for the football club. The key challenge is to maintain the current membership whilst finding new ways to expand and move towards our goal of 28% of the share capital whilst raising £3.5M. It is also vital to fund team strengthening for the likes of Andy Rammell, Junior Agogo and Robbie Ryan and reduce the debt burden from buying the Memorial Stadium.
I am a Facilities Manager and Chartered Building Surveyor managing Multi-million pound construction projects. I am experienced in managing professional consultants, contractors, line managing staff and managing financial budgets. I regularly liaise with councils and statutory bodies. I am currently project managing the redevelopment of a hospital site with a variety of complex legal and planning issues, disposal of parts of the site, demolition, refurbishment and rebuilding works. With the impending ground development and possible relocation and development of the club shop, I believe these are key skills to offer the Football Club and Supporters Club including advising on the future running of these facilities. I propose to provide supporters with regular updates on all developments.
Through the Share Scheme we now have a Director and an Associate Director, at board level, to represent the Supporters Club. This provides a unique opportunity to influence the strategic planning of BRFC and to represent fans views in the facilities provided in the new development.
It is also vital to maximise commercial and retail operations of BRSC whilst not forgetting traditional activities of the supporters club such as away travel and promoting good communications. Whilst finance has to be the top priority, and that includes all types fundraising and commercial activity, we must not forget the supporters club exists for its members.
