Bristol Rovers 4 Man Utd 0

November 27, 2005

The Supporters Club is pleased to announce a very special evening on THURSDAY 5th JANUARY 2006, in the Bristol Room at the Memorial Stadium, starting at 7.30pm.

We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary two days later of the famous demolition of the Busby Babes in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, giving rise to the scoreline of Bristol Rovers 4 Manchester United 0. United were top of the old First Division (ie Premiership) and Rovers were in the Second Division (ie Championship) and the football world was rocked by a fully
deserved scoreline.

The evening will feature some of the sights and sounds of the 50’s and a chance to meet and reminisce with some of the heroes of the 50’s. We also hope to have a display of some of the memorabilia from the match. Our star guest will be Alfie Biggs, scorer of two goals that day. The press reaction included “Babes get a Spanking”, a headline you may expect to see in the Sunday papers but not in the sport section!

The evening is free for fans and there will be a bar and food available to purchase on the evening. We also hope to have a celebration programme to purchase on the evening as a memento of the event. Tickets are available from Pirate Leisure and 199 Two Mile Hill. Supporters Club members, Helpline Members and Season Ticket Holders (on production of membership cards or season tickets) have priority until 5th December, then any remaining tickets will be offered to all supporters.

The picture shown is entitled “A Tense Moment” by WH Pearce, a painting of the match, sold at
Christies in London in September 2000
