Green Un 10th April 2006

April 12, 2006

[image1] Last weekend’s away day at Wycombe yielded a very welcome three points giving the team back to back wins, which was just the tonic to pick ourselves up after a run of three defeats on the trot. Though 1000 Gasheads travelled to the Causeway Stadium, many who did not tuned into ITV’S The Championship football highlights show the following Sunday morning to catch up on the goals. They and I were to be disappointed though, as despite highlights of every other match played the previous day being shown, for some reason the action from our encounter did not make it to the screen.

This set Gasheads up in arms and soon the fans forum was buzzing with people complaining about the fact they were not able to see the goals. Some had emailed ITV and complained and it was clear the situation needed getting in order.
It was decided to offer Gasheads an opportunity to pool their complaints together and send them all together via the Supporters Club web site, hoping it may carry more weight. Over 50 names and comments were collated and sent off and ITV responded in the way we would expect, promptly and professionally.

By Monday I had an explanation as to why the highlights had not been shown. They simply were not available and there was nothing that could be done, as the highlights had not arrived at their destination in time to be included in the show. ITV gave their apologies and promised we would get extra coverage in the Soccer Night show instead. A big thank you goes to all who took the trouble to get involved. I am sure that the collective efforts of Rovers fans did not go unnoticed and made the difference on this occasion.

With the end of the season now rapidly approaching it is time to consider the Supporters Club Player of the Season.
Following the success of last year’s event held at the Memorial Stadium the Social Committee are organising another interesting evening which will be held in the Club House bars on Sunday May 7th starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now and are priced at £5 and are available at the usual outlets.

As a tribute to the late great Ray Kendall, the Supporters Club have commissioned a new trophy to be presented this year which will now be known as The Ray Kendall Player Of The Year Award.

As well as the actual presentations Screen Soccer are again holding a goal of the season competition, and a basket meal is also included in the price of the ticket. “Last season’s party was a sell-out” said Social Committee chairman Dave Hewett “We are anticipating that the tickets will sell quickly again. We hope that it will be an enjoyable and interesting evening for everyone. The entire playing squad, management and board of directors have been invited, so it’s a real chance to meet the players in a social atmosphere.”

You can vote either in person at either of our retail outlets, at the next two home matches or online by logging on to www.bristolroverssc.co.uk. As well as the senior award, which is open to all players Lewis Haldane, Chris Lines and Darren Mullings are eligible for the “Young Player of the Season”.

Finally, please do not forget our Season long raffle for the customised Rovers scooter. As the end of the season draws ever closer, the winner will soon be picked, but there is still a chance YOU could win the big prize for just £1. The runner up wins a custom mountain bike and the third prize is a signed and framed Rovers shirt. We did include tickets in the recent Supporters Club news posted out to members, so if you have any unsold it would be appreciated if you could drop them into Pirate Leisure at your convenience.
More news next week.
