Last Summer we reported that Young Pirate Ben Martell , now aged 7 was settling in to his new life in Nottingham having moved there in March 2004. He was determined to show the local lads how we Gasheads play football and managed to pick up the Teamtheme soccer award for Most improved Player.

The good news is that Ben has gone from strength to strength and is now a key member of the Aslockton Cranmers team in the heart of the Vale of Belvoir, a countryside area in which Ben now lives with his Mum, Dad (also known as Rammell Hero) and Sister Jade. The team have just finished a tournament for which Ben was skipper with 5 wins and one draw from the 7
games played.

Last night Ben was presented with the award for Managers Player of the Year and is pictured here in his England away shirt, with the award, having earlier watched England pick up their first 3 points of the World Cup. Let’s hope that the events of the last couple of weeks do not get in the way of Ben and the next generation of Gasheads being able to live their dream of
playing for the Gas for real one day. That is after all what is all about being a supporter – helping to hand on the heritage of our love of Bristol Rovers to the next generation and the one after..
