Mariners Go Home With Nothing
August 13, 2006
Last week saw two very disappointing performances from Paul Trollopes Rovers side.
After a less than satisfactory showing on Tuesday night against a Wycombe side that seemingly could not believe their luck, Trollope promised he would wield the axe if he needed to to ensure we got back on track. True to his word. there were a few faces left out yesterday, giving some home debuts to new players. Elliott, Carruthers, Campbell and Haldane were all left out of the starting line up, giving starts to Ryan Green, Byron Anthony and Andy Sandell, scorer of the only goal of the match.
Whilst Campbell and Haldane both got on as subs and worked very hard, neither Elliott or Carruthers managed to do so and the youngsters did everything asked of them. Man of the match for me was Sandell, though Anthony and Green were also more than adequate in the roles they were being asked to play.
One of the biggest questions of the day though came after full time. Junior Agogo clapped the crowd as he left the pitch and ran over to the Bass Terrace. It did nothing to quell any speculation that he may well be on his way out of Rovers with Nottingham Forest being the favourites to net him.
Young Pirates Mascot
Eleven year old Aaron Kemp lives in Yate and will be attending Brimsham Green School from the start of next month. His hobbies are football and playing on his gameboy. He is a keen footballer himself and plays as a defender for Yate Rangers U-12’s, who recently won Division C of the Hanham Minor League. His favourite players are Chris Carruthers and James Hunt and we hope that Aaron enjoys being our mascot this afternoon.
