Introducing… Clive Farquhar
November 2, 2006
I am an accountant by profession and following many years working in practice I am currently the Finance Manager for a commercial printers in Portbury. I have supported Bristol Rovers for 30 years and been a season ticket holder for the last 20 years. I have been a member of the Supporters Club since around 1980 and have been a share scheme member since its inception.
My involvement with Bristol Rovers had not extended beyond following the team home and away until I was approached to become involved with the Finance Advisory Group in February 2005. This involves monthly meetings at which all financial aspects of the Football Club are monitored, including monthly management information and budgets. This involvement has allowed me to gain a detailed understanding of how the clubs finances are managed.
The Group also deals with ad-hoc projects, which has led me to become involved with the implementation of the Supporters Club’s new EPOS retail system. My role over the last year has been to help and advise Jane Browne with the computerisation of the SC and Share Scheme accounts and the link with the new EPOS system. The successful implementation of these systems is vital in terms of the Supporters Club being able to provide the Football Club with up to date financial information and will lead to greater accountability. I have also prepared a detailed budget for the SC for 2006-07 and reported to the EC on the accounting systems with numerous recommendations and proposals and this assistance is part of an ongoing process.
If elected, I will strive to “re-connect” the board with the supporters and will ensure regular and timely reporting of all aspects of boardroom activity. This will include;
§ Regular contact with supporters either face to face or via the various means of communication such as the Internet, The Pirate match day programme, local radio and press.
§ Regular updates on financial matters such as Share Scheme contribution levels and allocation of these funds. (At the time of writing the Share Scheme and the forthcoming Rights Issue of the football club are being keenly debated and my finance skills and understanding of the complex issues involved will enable me to ensure that the best interests of the Share Scheme and Supporters Club members are upheld)
§ Periodic progress reports on the stadium regeneration.
I will also ensure that the views of the membership through the EC are properly represented at board level.
Finally, thank you for your time in reading this and would ask for your support at this crucial time in the history of our club. It is vitally important that the interests of the Supporters of Bristol Rovers are properly catered for and I will be grateful to receive your vote.
