Fans View – Port Vale

August 11, 2007

An arduous journey up the motorway was rewarded with a competent performance and deserved draw for Rovers in front 2000 Gasheads at Vale Park.

The first half was relative quiet, Lambert having a shot saved and Pipe putting a decent header just over the goal. For their part Port Vale had one decent attempt, that being a shot from 25 yards well saved by Phillips from the left hand side of his goal.

The second half started off much the same as the first half had finished, Lambert putting a shot just wide after good build up play, however, just after the hour Phillips had a rush of blood to head and bundled over Willock in the area, although it was up the other end of ground it looked like a penalty to me although a few people around me didn’t see it that way.

Still we know Rovers could come back and they did when Williams nodded in from close range after the ball was not cleared from a corner kick. Perhaps the fastest ever debut goal?

Pipe who started the game looked good playing up the right and Williams looked to have some good touches and I look forward to seeing more of both of them.

Overall a good start to the season, great support, pity about the traffic…
