Bristol Rov Collectors & History Society

[image1]Mike Jay, who organises the recently formed Bristol Rovers Collectors & History Society has this update for members as well as any other Rovers supporters who may be interested in becoming involved with the society. This article follows on from one in an edition of The Pirate from earlier this season.
Hi to all Rovers Collectors & History Society members,
I wish you all a very happy and healthy 2008. It was certainly a super year 2007 for the Rovers.
What with the play offs, promotion, summer holidays and several work and family issues to resolve over the past five months it has been very difficult to organise anything since our group was formed at the end of last season.
What with my contributions to the Rovers matchday programme, website and other peoples books (the Bert Tann era by Eddie Giles) I have had little or no spare time. I joined a local history evening course in September and have been busy tracing my family roots too.
However, we do need to get together again soon and focus our ideas on where we are going. I have started a database of items collectors have. Did anyone see a Gloucester Cup Final medal was sold on ebay a couple of months ago and also a set of Rovers’ players autographs from the 1930’s?
I am considering along with Stephen Byrne compiling a biography of Geoff Bradford for publication in 2010 and will seek out help from you the members in collating material for it.
If any longstanding supporters have any personal memories of Geoff Bradford or know anyone who will have travelled from Whitchurch Airport to see Bradford’s England International debut in Denmark in 1955 I would be delighted to hear from them.
I am planning to arrange a meeting at the Mem in the near future and if anyone would like me to add their e-mail address to my data base I will ensure they are kept up to date with developments.
