Social Committee Report

Last year saw the continuation of the popular General Knowledge Quizzes and once again the social highlight was the Player of The Year Presentation evening that was again well attended by players and supporters alike.

In addition to these regular events, last season also saw the Supporters Club heavily involved in the return of famous past players to the clubhouse bars. At the last game of the season, as fate would have it against Brighton, the SC organised highlights of Smash and Grabs goals in the 8-2 thrashing of Brian Clough’s Brighton in 1973. Alan and Bruce made it a great night as they cheered every Rovers goal shown on the Big Screen and signed autographs for the fans in the packed bars.

A few weeks earlier, Radio 5 were in attendance at the Mem with several of the side that beat Southampton in 1978, as Rovers began to get national attention for last seasons famous cup run. Again there was a good turn out of fans as they watched Paul Randall and Co beat the star studded Saints side, just like Rickie Lambert and Co would do the very next day.

Thanks to Screen Soccer for there assistance in supplying highlights for these events.

The proposed move away from the Mem has lead to a delay in organising several of the planned events to celebrate the clubs 125th anniversary. Several possible sites were looked at for social purposes and if any fans know of any possible locations we could use when the developments are taking place, please let the committee know.

The first social event of the season is a General Knowledge Quiz booked for Thursday 2nd October at 7.30 in the Bristol Room. It would be great to see as many people as possible there. The details are the same as always, £1 per entry, a maximum of 5 in a team and there will be a raffle so everyone has a chance to win. Future General Knowledge quizzes will be organised so please look at the website, programme and posters around the stadium for more details.

Talks are also in place regarding a special Rovers quiz to celebrate the 125th Anniversary and a table football tournament. If anyone else has any suggestions or some time to assist organising any events please let me know.
