From the Chair
With the away games at Oldham and Crewe being postponed it is timely then to remind supporters again that we operate a fully insured travel service that guarantees a free replacement trip or full refund if a match is postponed after our coaches leave Bristol. You can book for away travel in the Clubhouse Bar today or in either Pirate Leisure here at the stadium or the BRSC shop at 199 Two Mile Hill, Kingswood, during the week
February looks like being as busy as usual for the Supporters Club Committee with a full Executive meeting, and the ’60’s Night planned for next Monday (23rd).
Robin Schols, one of our former committee members, recently underwent major surgery at Frenchay Hospital. I understand he is making good progress after the operation and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
Up the Pirates!
Railway to Walsall
Good afternoon and welcome to the Memorial Stadium for today’s encounter with Leicester City. We extend a warm welcome to all their supporters and a safe journey home to all after the game.
The first gathering of Yate and Sodbury Gas took place at The Railway on Station Road in Yate recently. Well over 20 fans from the area came along to enjoy a pint or two, chat about transport needs, car sharing, other issues and just to talk Rovers.
I did my best to answer the many questions that arose mainly about stadium regeneration progress, transfer talk, reserve team football and the development of youth players.
The Railway is a most suitable venue because it provides plenty of room without interfering with the enjoyment of other customers using the Pub. It surely is a Mecca for darts players with at least half a dozen boards. Other pub games can be found including pool; many thanks to landlord Harvey Perks for being so welcoming. Many thanks indeed to Tery Windebank for organising in Yate and Sodbury. Terry is well supported by his family, Josh Nichol and Simon Cole.
Every effort is being made by the newest Branch to run a local coach to the Walsall away game on Saturday 14th March. It is intended to leave from outside the Pub. The landlady indicted that a pre travel breakfast could be available subject to demand. Sounds good to me and of course a welcoming pint upon return with hopefully three points in the bag.
Progress is still really excellent at Norton Radstock where Louise, Sally and Caroline are doing really sterling work. Mike the Landlord at the Crown at Clapton near Midsomer Norton is very supportive and has now agreed to accept the position of Branch chairman. The most recent gathering took place on Thursday 5th February and the burning issue was local travel also to Walsall. A branch notice board can be found in the bar of the Pub.
Please look on the Supporters Club Web Site or in these notes for further information and for details of gatherings and times. All Rovers fans are welcome to join with us at our new Branches and new members can join the Supporters Club locally.
Don’t forget to look out for activities at Weston Super Mare. Our well established Branch there has its own Web Site for news and information. Interaction between the Branches is really good. Norton Radstock will soon be visiting Weston for a return social and pub games event. I am still looking to form local Branches in West Wilts and in Mid Glos. Please make contact with me if you would like to help.
Many congratulations to Trolls for being nominated for Manager of the Month and to Joe Kuffour for his top twenty place for Goal of the Year. Vote for Joe for top spot. This is Bristol, come on Rovers, come on you Blues.
The winner of the 50/50 draw at the Cheltenham game was John Isserlis of Easton who collected £740 with ticket number 57595 which was sold by Jackie Chapple on the Clubhouse Terrace.
