AFTER THE EXCITEMENT OF THE FA CUP ON SATURDAY, WE WELCOME SOUTHEND UNITED, FOLLOWING THEIR LONG JOURNEY TO THE WEST COUNTRY ON THIS TUESDAY EVENING.
Our games with Southend have always been very keenly fought and I know tonight will be no different.
I’m sure you will have seen comments made to me on Twitter and on the forums by many of our supporters who have asked Ken and I to ask the club to look carefully at discount ticket prices in light of the current economic climate. As you will appreciate Rovers obviously try to offer the best deals at all times.
The response we have had from supporters for the club’s special ticket offer for the match against Rotherham on 22nd December has been fantastic. And since then, I’m sure you will share my appreciation to the club for offering some excellent offers for our next home game against Chesterfield on Saturday. I believe our youngsters are our future and the club. With the excellent ticketing prices for the Chesterfield game, the club have fully endorsed this view as well. On the subject of Chesterfield, I am delighted to inform you that our former players Devon White and Phil Purnell have kindly agreed to be our guests for this match.
Devon was a brilliant and much loved striker, making 202 appearances for Rovers between 1987 & 1992, scoring 53 goals.
Phil Purnell, whose career sadly ended because of a broken leg in 1993, spent the majority of his career as an outstanding midfielder for the Gas, making 153 appearances for Rovers between 1985 & 1993, scoring 22 goals.
As with previous guests, Devon and Phil will be in the Dribuild for lunch and a Q and A. They will come on to the pitch to meet you again at half time. Again, they have kindly offered to join supporters in the Supporters Club after the game to sign autographs and say hello. I know they will get a very warm welcome!
Just a reminder, plans for the Geoff Bradford Day at the Bradford match are moving ahead. The day will begin in the Executive bar behind the Supporters Club bar. As well as book signing sessions, in recognition of Geoff’s outstanding and legendary contribution to Bristol Rovers, our chairman will make a presentation to Geoff’s daughters Linda and Nichola at half time.
With our return to league action, now is the time to get behind Bristol Rovers more than ever! Enjoy the match and UTG
