50/50 Draw Review

June 5, 2014

We are reviewing how we run the 50/50 match day draw to see if we can make any improvements. If you have any ideas on how we can make it more successful in the future, we would welcome your views.

Whether or not you normally buy tickets on a regular basis, please tell us your experience on how easy it is to buy, how visible the sellers are, the location of sellers, the 50/50 prize structure, (the number and size of prizes), and the overall aim of the scheme.

The Supporters Club executive conducted a review of the 50/50 draw system last year and identified some small changes to improve its operation. Our review last year resulted in the introduction of a fixed second prize of £100, additional selling points and a closer link with programme sellers. Before we make any more changes we are keen to take on board comments from the wider membership.

We would welcome your views by Monday June 16th. These comments mean that we can then begin to plan in detail for the season ahead.

We will provide feedback on the comments to the membership via the BRSC website by Monday June 30th.

Could members please forward their comments to the BRSC shop, (199 Two Mile Hill Road, Kingswood, Bristol, BS15 1AZ), or to [email protected] by Monday 16th June. Please head your correspondence “50/50 REVIEW.” It would be helpful if you could indicate in your response whether you normally do or do not buy tickets.

In the 2013/14 season a target of £23,000 was set for the BRSC 50/50 draw to help towards funding of the Youth Team. This was a 15% increase on the level reached in the previous seasons. We were encouraged to do this when Ken Masters informed us that increasing our donation to this level would produce a large increase in central funding for the youth set-up. Having agreed to set this target and achieved it we are more confident now about setting a tough target for the 2014/2015 season. We will probably set a target related to the percentage of the match day crowd rather than a fixed monetary target.

The average crowd is going to be lower in the season ahead and it is wise to set a target that is realistic. During the 2013/14 season we sold tickets, on average, to 29% of the total crowd. Last season, we only achieved 36% on one occasion; the Fleetwood home match. In 7 games we managed to sell to 26% or less of the total crowd. Against Watford and Cheltenham we only sold tickets to 22% of the crowd. Our review has helped us to understand some of the key reasons why the 50/50 takings vary. However, we would be keen to hear the views of the wider membership about the half time raffle. It is you, the supporters, who make this scheme successful and it will only achieve its aims if you support it by buying tickets.

Many thanks in advance.

BRSC executive committee.
