BAN_RACISM

Welcome all to our one and only local ‘derby’ of this Conference season in the shape of a visit from Forest Green Rovers. Never would I have believed when I first trekked up the hill to the old ‘Lawn’ some forty years ago to watch ……………

Another rare event has been a clear week in which this column is able to catch up with things leading up to this Saturday, and quite a period we have to report on! Since we last wrote the two home games that promised so much opportunity for the team to progress turned out to be OK but not particularly brilliant. Nevertheless ……………………

The ‘Darts’ fixture proved to be extremely controversial thanks to some racist comments directed towards the visiting goalkeeper by a so-called supporter in the Clubhouse Terrace. At the time it was not clear at all except to those up-close to the incident as to what had actually occurred………………

RACISM_OUT

It later transpired of course that an individual who was, according to Safety Officer Dave Harper, ‘known to the club’ had been shouting racist comments to Brown. This is clearly unacceptable and the Supporters Club has sent our apologies, along with many others from Rovers, to him for what he had to suffer…………

I now know that some supporters in the Clubhouse did try to stop the racist and to involve the stewards and that matter is now being investigated by the Football Club………….

Finally what a great atmosphere with the vociferous home fans, complete of course with the now customary drummer, matched all the way by 1,255 Gasheads – a fantastic ………………

Now let’s see if the lads can extend that great run into double figures this afternoon.

Up the Pirates!
