Swindon Town 0. v. 1. Bristol Rovers

Match played on Saturday 6th December 2014

Ryan Broom’s second half goal was enough to give Rovers all three points against their Swindon Town counterparts on Saturday.

It was their third consecutive victory, third consecutive clean sheet and fifth game unbeaten and Youth Team manager Alan Walsh was delighted with his side’s performance.

“We did very well considering we lost Bradley Confrey the day before the match as he injured his thumb in training and missed the game on medical advice.

“Jay Malpas left the pitch with a broken bone in his foot after 12 minutes, while goalkeeper Cameron Clarke picked up an injury in the third minute but managed to see out the game in some pain.

“However the lads put in a good shift and I felt we deserved to win. We created a number of first half opportunities but, not for the first time this season, we simply weren’t clinical enough in front of goal.”

In spite of a lack of first half goals, his side remained positive and took the lead ten minutes into the second period.

“Ryan Broom broke down the right and tried to play a pass forward. The ball hit a Swindon defender and came back to him, which got him past his marker and to the edge of the box where he finished very well with a 22 yard angled drive past the keeper.

“From that point we were the team in the ascendancy and I felt we were the team most likely to score as Swindon’s only threat came from set pieces and we held out comfortably until the end of the game.”
