Nuneaton Town failed to make it back-to-back league victories as they played out another stalemate at AFC Telford United.

After their 4-4 Boxing Day draw this was another game of many chances as the bottom two Conference Premier teams battled for a crucial victory.

The Boro fans would have felt they should have been ahead when after five minutes when a defensive mix-up left Adam Walker through on goal but his attempted chip went straight to the keeper.

However, Telford piled forward forcing a corner which was played in by Kyle Brownhill causing problems in the Nuneaton defence and Theo Streete headed towards his own goal only to be rescued by a good Callum Burton save.

After 29 minutes Boro had another great chance to take the lead when a through ball caught Telford out and allowed Onome Sodje in on goal but he was thwarted by the feet of a charging Freddy Hall.

Boro responded again and this time it was James Armson who shot from outside the box on 36 minutes but was denied by Hall at full stretch as the half ended goalless.

Seconds after the restart a vicious Tony Gray strike from distance was parried by Burton allowing Sam Smith to fire home only for an offside flag to deny him to the disbelief on the home fans.

Boro passed up another glaring chance to break the deadlock when a cross from Ryan Smith found Michael Gash in prime position but he headed straight at Hall.

Burton was kept busy in the Boro goal all afternoon and came to his sides saviour on the hour with a hat-trick of saves the best from a point-blank Mike Grogan header.

Telford were on the front foot and came inches away from taking the lead when a Josh Haycock cross was not dealt with but Adam Farrell saw his shot fly wide.

Liam Daish’s side were limited to counter attacking breaks but could have scored when Armson was released inside the box but failed to get his shot away before shooting at Hall and despite the hosts’ pressure the game ended blank.
