It was great to see another huge contingent of ‘Gasheads’ at Halifax last Saturday. This was the third of four long trips North but all three have drawn nearly seven hundred fans.
It was my first visit to the Shay and was the only former League ground I had not been to in the Conference this term. On the outside it looks a modern, tidy stadium but is an odd mixture of old and new.
The visiting ‘Gas’ had an excellent view on entering from above of the appalling pitch.
It was perhaps difficult to compare it to Dartford’s ‘swamp’ as the weather was good and the pitch dry but it had little grass, cut up into thousands of divots during the warm-up and had lines of sand.
None of us thought that the second goal warranted a free-kick from a referee who gave us nothing and, if you watch the highlights on our website, you can see that Mark McChrystal was clearly pulled back by the scorer. Fortunately a change of formation by Darrell did the trick and Rovers’ fantastic ‘do or die’ spirit produced a great finish to claim a point that felt like three.
Sensational strikes from Lee Brown and super-sub Ellis Harrison, were both worthy of inclusion in our ‘Goal of the Season’ nominations so have a look at both on the Supporters Club’s website.
We should have another good ‘gate’ with, hopefully, lots of Saturday amateur footballers coming along to boost the crowd along with our promotion chances.
It’s yet another vital game and one I’m sure will be made difficult by the ‘Shots’ but a match we really need to win to regain top spot so please get behind the lads as you always do here!
Up the ‘Pirates’.
