REDS ARE RELEGATED
Alfreton Town’s four-year tenure in the Vanarama Conference top flight ended on the last day of the season as the club suffered a first relegation since the 1998/99 campaign.
Despite nearest relegation rivals Welling United losing 1-0 at home to Southport, the Reds were crushed 7-0 at Bristol Rovers whose own forlorn chase for the title ended in glorious high-scoring failure after league leaders Barnet beat Gateshead 2-0 to land the top prize.
The match was played out in front of a new record Conference crowd of 11,085 which included 97 from Derbyshire.
It was the second time this season that the Reds have lost by seven goals and after ending the campaign with the worst goal difference in the division, Nicky Law’s side, who ended the season with no wins in their last nine league outings, are relegated to the Vanarama National League North for the 2015/16 campaign.
