BRISTOL ROVERS 4. v. 1. BATH CITY
( Played on Friday 24th April 2015.)
The Bristol Rovers Academy Under 18 side played their second friendly match in three days and ran out 4-1 winners against Bath City. All of the Rovers goals were scored in the second half.
Youth Team manager Alan Walsh used a number of players, as he did against Southampton two days earlier, with Aaron Ward-Baptiste and trialist Lewis Powell again featuring.
“We played some decent football, “said Alan, “against a competitive Bath side who gave us a good game.
“Our best opportunity of scoring in the first half came when Laurent Davis-Wilson played in Blake Davies but the Bath goalkeeper made an excellent save from him in a one on one situation.
“Bath had a few half chances and scored ten minutes before half time following some poor defending on our part. We failed to clear a through ball into our box and, after a goalmouth scramble, they managed to force the ball over the line from close range.”
A number of half time changes saw Rovers field a more experienced line-up after the break and the equaliser came soon after the restart.
“A free kick, taken by Aaron Ward-Baptiste, was parried away by the goalkeeper as far as Elliott Green, who netted from the rebound.
“Aaron then finished off a good move a few minutes later to put us ahead and George Corp added a third with the best goal of the game. It came following a good move down the right and when Elliott played the ball into George he evaded one challenge before slotting the ball into the far corner of the net.
“Bath continued to push forward and created one or two chances, but we scored a fourth goal late when Aaron won race for ball with goalkeeper and toe poked the ball into the net.
