Bristol Rovers v Barnet. Saturday 22nd August 2015.

(Part of these notes may be included in the Barnet programme.)

A very warm welcome today to the directors, staff and supporters of Barnet FC.

Barnet are a team who won the race to cross the finishing line to gain automatic promotion last season.

Part of Barnet’s success has been based on their ability to attract young talent from their surrounding area.

I’m sure you agree that developing young talent is essential if club’s like ours are going to survive and thrive.

Ed Ware’s article talks about the good job Jon Henderson does with our Youth setup at Bristol Rovers.

To support Jon, I am delighted our former Chief Scout, Paul Molesworth’s Central Development side, based at Henley in Arden College, Stratford Upon Avon, will again be playing under our Bristol Rovers club name.

As well as in the BRFC Academy, there is substantial talent coming through Paul’s Midland based college also.

It was over three years ago since our partnership with Paul’s youngsters last operated. A product of that relationship was Jamie Lucas who continues to develop and is not far from becoming a regular in our first team.

Our fingers are now crossed that many more players like Jamie, who may have previously played for teams like Birmingham, Wolves, Villa and Walsall, will now move across and prosper with Bristol Rovers.

Weston S Mare Gas

There are costs associated with a centre like this, such as the kit required for five junior teams.

I was therefore delighted to learn that both Weston-Super-Mare Gas, who originally sponsored the Development side, and The Bristol Rovers Fans Forum, have offered to help fund the cost of the youngsters’ kit.

Together with Ed Ware and Ken Masters, I was instrumental in setting up this side originally, and I know they will greatly complement the fabulous youngsters we have of our own.

Without this offer of funding, I know how difficult it would be for Paul and his youngsters to operate.

Therefore from everyone at Bristol Rovers, may I thank both Weston Gas and The Fans Forum for this fabulous gesture of support and we all look forward to reaping the benefits in the future.

So back to the match. Fingers crossed for our first home win of the season and many more to come!

Yours in Friendship
