Gary Sawyer launched his career at Argyle and returned to the club in July 2015 as one of eight summer signings made by Adams after his appointment as manager.

The visit of Bristol Rovers will see Gary Sawyer come up against one of his former clubs.

He signed for the Pirates from Argyle in the summer of 2010 and spent two seasons with them, making a total of 68 starts and one substitute appearance.

Sawyer said: “I have got a lot of close people there that I still speak to. I enjoyed my time there.

“It will be a good game. Obviously, I want us to win, but I do want them to do well this season.”

Rovers were relegated in 2013/14 but showed tremendous character as a club to bounce back at the first attempt.

They beat Grimsby Town on penalties in the Football Conference play-off final at Wembley following a 1-1 draw after extra-time, to reclaim their League status.

Sawyer said: “They have had a difficult period, which I know has been tough on a lot of the players there and, obviously, the staff.

“Unfortunately, in this era of football, it seems to happen quite a lot to clubs that you think shouldn’t have those problems.

“The Conference (now called the National League) is tough to get out of because of only the two-up situation. They have done fantastically well to get straight back out of that.”
