BRSC Chair’s Thoughts
November 17, 2015
(These notes are a section of the BRSC Chair’s notes published in full in the Carlisle United Programme.)
It was a disappointment to exit the F.A. Cup at the hands of Chesham United. It is not the first time that Rovers have been giant-killed by non-leaguers. In supporting the Gas I have witnessed all the recent ones.
I missed the 1972 defeat at Hayes but was there to see us exit at Kettering, Hitchin and Darlington but they were all on the road. We have never been beaten at home by non-League opposition before so it hurts.
It is clutching at straws, but the Hayes team went on to win promotion from Division 3 under Don Megson. Gerry Francis’ Kettering team claimed the 1990 Championship and made our first ever appearance at Wembley.
I did not think Rovers played badly against Chesham and 17 corners and 25 shots at goal bear this out. The Chesham keeper had a blinder and Rovers simply could not finish off the chances they created.
Those of you who enter the ground through the main car park will have seen our new matchday cabin at the top of the ramp to the Dribuild Stand. Keep and eye open and call in when you see the lights on.
Up the Pirates.
