Corp Consolation

November 17, 2015

The BRFC Academy Under 18 side were beaten 3-1 by Swindon Town on Saturday 14th November.

This was in a game that Youth Team Manager, Alan Walsh, felt his side should have won comfortably.

“I know it’s a cliché,” said Alan Walsh, “but this was the proverbial game of two halves.”

“We did really well in the first half and missed a hatful of chances. What’s more, they were very good chances.”

“We found ourselves in one on one situations with their keeper on no fewer than four occasions and he saved each one as well as making two or three other very good saves.”

“While he deserves credit, it was disappointing not to have scored from at least one of the chances we created.”

“While we were the team in the ascendancy in the opening period, Swindon managed only one goal attempt in that period, a shot that flew high over the crossbar.”

“We paid for our profligacy in front of goal five minutes after the restart when the home side opened the scoring with their first on target effort. They scored again ten minutes later and added a third shortly afterwards.”

“We scored a consolation goal five minutes from time through George Corp, who wriggled past three challenges on his way to the edge of the area before bending a right foot shot into the top corner of the net.”

“It was almost certainly the goal of the game but, unfortunately, it was a case of too little too late. Substitute Sam Hedges also had an effort cleared off the line after that.”

“It was a disappointing game to lose and a concern that we conceded three goals, said Alan Walsh.”
