Charles Breakspear was promoted to the national list at the beginning of the 2013/14 season. He had previously been an Assistant Referee in the Football League for five seasons and had spent a spell officiating in the Football Conference. His first league fixture was York City’s 1-0 home win against Northampton Town in League Two on August 3rd 2013.


The Assistant Referees are Marvyn Amphlett and John Law.

The Fourth Official is Brendan Malone.


Charles Breakspear last officiated at The Mem on Sunday 14th August 2016 when Oxford United were beaten 2-1. So far this season he has been in charge for 13 Football League games. He has issued 65 Yellow cards and 3 Red cards. One of those Red cards was issued in the 67th minute for Sam Long in that match against OUFC. Matty Taylor, a 58th minute substitute, scored the winner for the Pirates three minutes later in that match.
