Tomorrow’s trip to the Keepmoat Stadium will be our first visit there since 9th February 2008 when second half Brian Stock and Paul Heffernan penalties gave our hosts a 2-0 win.
Doncaster are a bit of a bogey side for us these days, winning the last six encounters including the best remembered game between the sides – the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final at Cardiff where Rovers agonisingly went down to a 3-2 defeat. After falling two goals behind in the first five minutes Rovers drew level through a second half penalty by Richard Walker and a Sammy Igoe goal. An extra time strike by Graeme Lee ensured the silverware went north to Yorkshire.
In the overall head to head statistics both sides have recorded 16 victories with 6 games being drawn.
Our best result was a 6-1 win at Eastville in December 1956 with Dai Ward hitting a hat-trick, Barrie Meyer scoring twice and Geoff Bradford on target too. Ward’s hat-trick was the fastest ever recorded for Rovers with his goals coming in the 77th, 78th and 80th minutes.
