53 Points – Target One

FIFTY THREE POINTS IS THE FIRST TARGET

.

.

FINISHING in 20th place in Division ONE

No side in the last 20 seasons has finished 20th with more than 52 points or fewer than 45 points.

For example, last season Shrewsbury Town had 50 points while in 2014/15 Crewe Alexandra had 52 points.

In 18 of the last 20 seasons, the teams who finished in 20th place had either 50, 51 or 52 points.

The two exceptions were:

(1). In 1999/2000 when Oxford United stayed up with 45 points.

(2). In 2001/2002 when Northampton Town survived with 49 points.

So the first important target for Bristol Rovers this season is 53 points.

That ought to be sufficient to guarantee Division ONE football for the 2017/18 season.
