A Scottish Stroll

Oct 5, 2025 | News

We ran the following article in our matchday programme for the game against Salford City and it attracted a great deal of interest and so, with the date of the three day Scottish stroll for `Martin Henry and his team fast approaching, we make no apologies for once more publicising their efforts to raise funds for a very deserving caiuse.

We recently spoke to Martin Henry who, along with a group of friends, namely Mike Henry, Paul Noble, Dave Gover, John Pearce, Damian Whittard are embarking on a fundraising walk for Darby Rimmer MND Foundation and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

‘We were Inspired by Marcus Stewart’s fight against MND and the sad loss of David ‘Syd’ Lawrence earlier this year,’ said Martin, adding; ‘and having enjoyed supporting the Stewart’s Sports Tour of Bristol last year, we have entered a team in the Scottish March of the Day between 10th – 12th October.

‘It is, essentially, a fundraising walk around football clubs from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We are all Rovers fans and our numbers include a couple of Season Ticket Holders.

‘We will be walking 95+ miles, as a team, over three days to support the aforementioned charities aiming to raise funds for both in their fight to research Motor Neurone Disease and give support to those who suffer from this (as yet) incurable disease.’

We aren’t sure here at SC Towers that any of us are capable of walking that many miles in three days; three weeks, maybe, but not days! However, we are happy to give a mention to Martin and his friends and hope that as many Gasheads as possible will support them and sponsor them, no matter how large or small their donation might be.

The group have paid all expenses themselves and that includes all of them purchasing one of our Marcus Stewart T Shirts which they will wear during their three day walking holiday!

The group are hoping to raise at least £3,000 and are currently in training and are all up for the challenge. ‘I do have a little bit of walking experience,’ said Martin, ‘as I walked from Land’s End to John ‘O’ Groats with my wife a few years ago. Mind you, we took 80 days to do that, so this walk will be taken at a faster pace!’

We will keep you updated on their progress but, in the meantime, here are the links should you wish to offer the lads your support.

Our photo shows Martin on the extreme left, with Dave Gover next to him. The next two guys aren’t involved on this occasion, but the two next to them are Paul Noble and John Pearce.

Also, an honourable mention goes to Lou Lewis and Andy Cartwright who are driving the team’s support van to Scotland while the walkers let the plane take the strain!

Good luck, guys!
