FAN-TASTIC

BY DARREN STOBBS

Name: Mary Breeze

Area From: Horfield / Bishopston.  When we moved here the house was in Horfield but then the boundaries changed and it’s now in Bishopston.

When did you start watching Rovers?

In 1996. My son was given free tickets from school for a cup match against Exeter. We lost but we both wanted to go again and I have been a season ticket holder since then.

I was brought up in Surrey and first started watching football with my Dad.

We supported Aldershot, the local team. Back then Aldershot’s ground capacity was 17,000, and I remember it being pretty full much of the time.

Favourite player(s) since watching Rovers?

Andy Tillson was my favourite. He was very reliable. A good captain and a solid defender. James Belshaw was very entertaining in a nerve wracking sort of way when he thought he was an outfield player.

Favourite manager(s)?

Ian Holloway and Paul Trollope. Both cared deeply about the club.

Most memorable game(s) watching Rovers?

FA Cup game against Derby in 2002 when we won 3-1.  And, of course, the 7-0 victory against Scunthorpe that got us promoted to League 1.

Most memorable goal(s)?

Nathan Ellington lobbing the keeper to score against Derby in the FA Cup.

Favourite/Worst away ground?

They’re all a blur to me!

How do you see the season planning out?/

How do you rate the season so far?

Oh dear, best not to talk about this. However, we’ve been here before and the bad times help to make the good (and the mediocre) times seem better.

Any funny/unusual stories at Rovers?

Rovers v Fulham on a very wet night when the pitch was a mudbath.  No roof on the Thatcher’s end, and all of us getting drenched.  Wally Walters had a shot at the goal in front of us.  The ball stuck on the goal line, spinning round for an eternity, but sadly it didn’t go in.
