2016/2017 Season.
Bristol Rovers Under 18 Academy played a young Luton Town Academy side on Saturday 8th April 2017.
A second half goal from James Spruce ensured that Bristol Rovers won 1-0 against The Hatters Academy team at a highly-rated Wiltshire venue that it is always a pleasure to visit.
Having gone to the foot of the league table when defeated 2-0 by the Pilgrims of Plymouth Argyle in midweek this victory enabled the Bristol Rovers side to climb off the bottom.
There are no easy games in the YA Merit League One and the Bristol Rovers Academy side need to be on top of their game to earn any points. Byron Anthony’s Newport County Academy side are proving to be the surprise package in the Youth Alliance Merit League One this season. They are finding a way to win games by the odd goal or two and are undefeated to date. Meanwhile, Leyton Orient, the runaway winners of the Youth Alliance South East Division earlier in the season have not found it so easy recently. During the regular season they only lost 2 games out of 22 but have already lost 3 games in 7 Merit League One fixtures.
