Goals from Scott Isherwood and Kieran Phillips set up the victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Rovers’ youngsters registered their first win of the new season.

Speaking about the victory, Tom Parrinello stated that he was pleased with the resilience of the players to bounce back from defeat against Yeovil Town the previous week.

“It was a fantastic reaction following last week’s disappointment of losing our opening game of the season,” said the Lead Professional Development Phase Coach.

“Throughout the game, the lads showed excellent shape out of position to stifle a very good side and deal with the threats that Exeter posed.

“Another pleasing element was how clinical we were in front of goal and should have won by more goals.

“We enjoyed a good start to the game and managed to grab the opening goal after 11 mins. The boys maintained an excellent shape when Exeter had possession in dangerous locations and closed off lines and the pockets of space very well and were quick to get on the front foot ready to press.

“We won the ball numerous times throughout the game and when we managed to get a good first pass on the counter-attack, which caused them all sorts of problems.

“Before half time, we managed the grab the second goal and perhaps you could argue that we should have been more goals up at the break.

“We managed the game very well in the second half. We were able to disrupt the opposition and the sway of momentum very well, and if anything looked even more solid and hard to break down which was pleasing.

“Overall it was a fantastic result and performance against last season’s league and Merit League winners and the boys displayed the standards we as staff expect from them, as know that we have a really good group ability-wise.”.
