APPLAUSE FOR ROY

A number of Roy Dolling’s family will be attending Saturday’s match against Harrogate Town as guests of the club and Bristol Rovers Supporters Club, with the full backing of the Football Club, would like to ask all supporters to join in a one minute’s applause in the 38th minute of the game to remember a true clubman who played an important role in the Bristol Rovers story.

Roy, who passed away on 1st June, undertook many roles for the club over the course of 38 years, including those of Goalkeeping Coach, Youth Development Officer, Youth Coach and Scout and First and Reserve Team Physiotherapist.

He also saved the lives of two players, namely Aiden McCaffery, who swallowed his tongue during a match against Southend United, and Ian Alexander who swallowed his dental plate during an FA Cup tie against Fisher Athletic.

Roy always said that out of all the roles he undertook for the club, his time as Youth Development Officer was the one that gave him most pleasure and he spent many hours stood on wet and windy touchlines looking for players who had the potential to go on and play first team football for Rovers.

Some of those players, as well as some of those who didn’t make it all the way through to the first team attended Roy’s funeral, at which the club was represented by Director of Commercial and Revenue Ritchie Bates.

We hope that all at the match will join us in remembering a man who dedicated his life to our Football Club.
