BRFPA Annual Dinner

Apr 4, 2025 | News

Our good friends at the Bristol Rovers Former Players Association are hosting their Seventh Annual Dinner on Thursday 22nd May, at Mercure The Grange, Winterbourne, BS36 1RP and invite Rovers Supporters to join them for an evening spent in the company of Gary Mabbutt MBE.

Gary, of course, began his career with Rovers and appeared in 131 league games for us before joining Tottenham Hotspur for whom he appeared in 477 league games and won 16 full England caps to go with the seven U-21caps he also won.

Having been on the losing side in the 1987 FA Cup Final, Gary went on to collect a winners medal four years later. His playing career ended when he retired in 1999.

As far as Rovers are concerned, Gary was the 453rd player to make his Rovers league debut when he played against Burnley, at Turf Moor, on 16th December 1978 and as you can see from our photos, he has already received his cap to commemorate his debut.

One of our other photos shows him after he was presented with the Harry Bamford Trophy at The Memorial Stadium, in 2016.

Everyone is looking forward to hearing tales from his career and of the roles he’s had since hanging up his boots, namely;

Tottenham Hotspur FC – Global Club Ambassador

English Football Association – Ambassador

Prince’s Trust – Ambassador

Diabetes UK – Honorary Vice President
