In all the coverage surrounding the departure of Darrell Clarke from Bristol Rovers one name has been forgotten and it is only right that the Supporters Club pays tribute to Darrell’s Assistant throughout his management tenure.
Marcus Stewart was simply a great player for Rovers when he was used mainly as a lone striker during the club’s later years at Twerton Park. His goalscoring feats both for Rovers and his subsequent clubs are legendary and he was a fan’s favourite despite his links to the other Bristol team. When his playing career was over Marcus became Darrell’s right-hand man and firm ally during that brilliant climb back from the non-League wilderness. Marcus occasionally stood in for Darrell in Q&A forums and I was proud to share a table with him both at the Memorial Stadium and at Weston-Super-Mare when he took the time and trouble to speak to members. He always gave well considered views on happenings and managerial plans for the club and we will miss him greatly.
We thank Marcus for all that he has brought to Rovers and wish him all the very best in his future career. I know that he will get a fantastic reception whenever he returns to BS7.
