Thank you all for your continued support of our cap sponsorship scheme.
A number of caps, for players who have represented Bristol Rovers in the Football league, are now available for sponsorship and the cost is £50 for Supporters Club members and £60 for non members.
Many former players will be attending the Bristol Rovers Former Players Association Dinner on Friday 21st October and their caps will be presented that evening.
In no particular order, they are; Peter Aitken, Christian Edwards, Gary Smart, Mike Trought, Bob Bloomer, David Mehew, Martin Paul, Lewis Hogg, Simon Bryant, Jim Eadie, David Hillier, Josh Low, Jon French, Billy Clark, Geoff Twentyman and Harold Jarman.
More players may have accepted an invitation to attend by the time you read these notes, and we will endeavour to keep you updated.
Bruce Bannister and Frankie Prince will also be attending, though they were presented with their caps a few weeks ago, at half time in our game against Shrewsbury Town.
The caps of the following players are also available for sponsorship; Paul Lewis, Ray Johnston, Josser Watling, Nick Tanner, Ian Weston, Marcus Stewart, Ray Mabbutt, Gary Mabbutt, Ian Holloway and Gerry Francis.
We have asked the club if they will invite Gerry Francis, Ian Holloway and Gary Mabbutt to a future home game so that their caps can be presented, while Ian Weston and Nick Tanner have expressed an interest in attending a game in order to receive their caps.
Marcus Stewart is still involved with Yeovil Town, so we aren’t sure when we will be able to present his cap and Josser Watling, the club’s oldest surviving player, will have his cap presented to him at home.
Paul Lewis and Ray Johnston, two former Rovers’ goalkeepers, may not be able to attend the Former Players Dinner, but we will be making arrangements to present them with their caps in due course.
It should be pointed put that sponsorship is not inclusive and the same player can have more than one sponsor. Each player and sponsor will receive a certificate confirming the sponsorship and, where possible, a photo of the presentation will be available for sponsors and be published on the Supporters Club website.
