We are sure that many of you will be familiar with the Supporters Club Cap initiative, whereby they would like to award a cap to every player who has represented Bristol Rovers in the Football League.
Over 100 players have now received a cap commemorating their part in our club’s rich history. Players receive a numbered cap and certificate marking the date of their debut and the name of the opposition. In the season just ended, Ryan Woods became the 1,000th player to represent the club while youngster Kofi Shaw, the last player to make his debut in the 2023/24 campaign, was number 1,005.
Thanks to a great deal of help from huge Rovers fan Andrew Greenslade, we are hoping to present a number of caps to many of our former players in the months ahead.
Andrew is based in Ireland, where he is the Group Sales and Marketing Manager for Pillo Hotel, Ashbourne, Tullemaine Castle & Stud and Dundrum House Hotel & Golf resort and he is in contact, or know someone who is, with a number of players and many of them are regular guests at the establishments he is responsible for.
We are grateful to Andrew for facilitating presentations to many of the following players; Graham Barrett, Richie Partridge, Ciaran Toner, Gary Twigg, Liam Burns, Brian Cash, Jeff Hughes, Paul Heffernan, Cian Bolger, Conrad Logan, Michael Smith, Seanan Clucas, Mark McChrystal, Rory Gaffney, Liam Lawrence, Ryan Sweeney and Trevor Clarke.
In addition, Andrew is in touch with the families of Joe Haverty and Miah Dennehy and also the Football Association of Ireland who have expressed an interest in our cap project and it is hoped to present their caps to family members.
Racing connections of Mick Channon are also frequent guests and we hope that it may be possible to present his cap as well.
Supporters, if they wish, are able to sponsor the caps at a cost of £50 for members and £60 for non members and their name will be recorded on the certificate, of which they receive a copy. Funds generated by sponsorship help us cover the cost of the caps and also go towards any fund raising projects undertaken on behalf of the Football Club.
As we prepare the certificates and caps, any supporter who wishes to sponsor a cap should contact the Supporters Club Secretary in the first instance and no later than 21st June.
