Caps Update

Jan 23, 2023 | Cap Initiative, News

I would like to thank you all for your continued support of our Caps initiative which will continue into this year and quite a few years ahead!

As you know, we hope to track down relatives of as many pre war players as possible and suggested a deadline of 31st January for relatives of former players from that era to come forward.

That deadline is fast approaching, so if you are related to any pre war Bristol Rovers player who made at least one league appearance for the club, please get in touch. For those who miss this deadline, I guarantee there will be another opportunity to recognise their part in the Bristol Rovers story very soon.

To date we have heard from relatives of the following players and their relatives have told us some very interesting stories and provided us with photos we’ve not seen before; Frederick Bennett, John Hamilton, James Haydon, Frederick Jerry Morgan, John Muir, William Panes, Tom Pirie, Alexander Smeaton, Jesse Whatley, Wilfred Smith and Henry Thomas Wyper.

We have also made contact with relatives of the following post was players; Harry Bamford, Joe Davis, Ian Hamilton, Ian Muir, Ron Nicholls, Norman Sykes, Dai Ward and Ray Warren. If anyone would like to sponsor the caps for any of these players, please contact us by 31st January.

After that date the caps will be presented to the relatives of the players.

We also hope to present caps to former players who are still associated with local clubs, namely the Chippenham Town quartet of Luke Russe, Tom Mehew, Alefe Santos and Pablo Martinez, Ryan Clarke and Paul Tovey, who are both at Yate Town and Ryan Clarke and Chris Lines who are now playing for Bath City.

We also hope to present caps to Phil Bater and Phil Kite, neither of whom are currently involved in the local soccer scene.

Finally, we would remind you that the caps of all current squad members are available for sponsorship. There is no deadline on sponsorship applications for those currently playing for us, as we await details from the club as to when we might be able to present their caps.

Sponsorship for all categories is £50 for Supporters Club members and £60 for non members and applications, in the first instance, should be made to secretary@bristolroverssc.co.uk

Finally, I would like to express your committee’s appreciation of your financial support for Nick Anderton and Marcus Stewart, two very important members of the Bristol Rovers family, who are facing their respective illnesses with such fortitude.

Your willingness to support them financially in these trying times is testament to the fact that we are, indeed, a family club and long may that continue!
