We were sorry to learn that former Bristol Rovers forward David Hudd passed away on 31st July, at the age of 78.
Born in Bristol on 9th July 1944, David played for Old Georgians before joining Rovers in 1961 and he signed a professional contract two years later.
He made a goalscoring debut for the club in a 4-0 win against Port Vale, at Eastville, on 16th January 1965 in front of a crowd of 10,011 and featured in four more league games for the club before his release in December of that year.
He went on to sign for Cheltenham Town, at that time a Southern League side, and scored 40 goals in 142 appearances for the Gloucestershire Robins before time with two other Southern League sides, Worcester City and Gloucester City.
Scanned from a 1964/65 team photo. David is on the right at the back, the player next to him is Mike Whitehouse and in front of him Joe Davis and Gwynn Jones
He later worked at Robinson’s Waxed Paper Works in Fishponds and was a Director of his own company, Independent Insulations ,and moved to live in Cheltenham.
From the mid 1980’s until the early 1990’s David was a Director of his former club Cheltenham. A member of that club’s Former Player’s Association, he was their guest at a match against Port Vale at Whaddon Road in February 2019.
We extend our condolences to David’s family and friends at this very sad time.
