A first-half goal from Ryan Jones had the Gas 1-0 up at the break against a Torquay side that was littered with first-team players.

Goals from U18’s forward Harvey Greenslade and Lucas Tomlinson added to Rovers’ tally and fought off a comeback from the home side, who scored twice in the second half.

On the win against the experienced Torquay side, Development Manager Lee Mansell said, “It was an exceptional performance from everyone today.

‘The desire and spirit of the players was absolutely outstanding. The three goals today would not look out of place in a Premier league game.

‘It was a top performance from a group of talented young players, that included many members of our U18’s side, going up against a very strong Torquay side.

“I’m delighted for Ryan Jones to get his goal that saw us head into the lead at halftime.

“We lost some of the defensive discipline in the second half, but well-taken goals from both Harvey Greenslade and Lucas Tomlinson saw us get the win.

“It was a great test and experience for our lads to come up against an experienced Torquay side and we’d like to thank them for the game and wish them well for the rest of the season.”
