Chris Hargreaves’ team were 10-0 up at half time, with Rhys Kavanagh scoring six of them, while Lewis Ellington (2), Rollin Menayese and Cameron Hargreaves were also on target.

However they were only able to add one more goal in the second half, Ryan Broom scoring from the penalty spot five minutes from time.

Rovers took the lead after only two minutes when Connor Jones crossed from the right and found Kavanagh, who headed past goalkeeper Alexandros Papagianis from close range.

The lead was doubled on five minutes when Ryan Broom broke down the right and fed Kavanagh who rifled a shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.

At the other end keeper Liam Armstrong got down well to save from Christian Adu Gyamfi as the London side tried to pull a goal back immediately after conceding.

Kavanagh completed his hat trick with eight minutes on the clock when a clearance from Rollin Menayese reached the striker in the area and he nonchalantly beat the keeper from the edge of the six yard box.

The striker might have made it four on 13 minutes but his free kick drifted just wide of the upright, but goal number four did arrive on 15 minutes when Papagianis could only parry a shot from Dunnwald straight into the path of Lewis Ellington who knocked the ball in from close range

Two minutes later Kavanagh scored his fourth, and Rovers fifth, when he latched on to Michael Kelly’s ball into the box and easily beat the keeper with a fine shot.

There was no let up for the London side, though, and Kavanagh scored again a minute later, rifling the ball home from the edge of the area past the Academy’s substitute keeper.

There was no stopping Kavanagh and he scored again on 23 minutes, heading home a cross from Dunnwald to complete his double hat trick.

In a rare foray into Rovers’ half, Gyamfi saw his shot blocked by Menayese, but it was only temporary respite for the Academy side as Rovers remained on top and Kavanagh missed an opportunity to add to his remarkable tally when he hit a shot wide of the upright after being played in by Hargreaves.

There were 34 minutes on the clock when goal number eight arrived and on this occasion Kavanagh turned provider, playing the ball into Ellington whom comfortably beat the keeper from 12 yards out.

There was almost another goal for Kavanagh when he got on the end of Hassan Abu Ghassan’s cross from the left, but on this occasion he directed his header over the bar.

With four minutes of the half remaining Menayese scored goal number nine, heading home after the visiting defenders failed to clear a corner from the right. Hargreaves was next to score, running on to Broom’s through ball and calmly slotting the ball past the keeper from ten yards.

Dunnwald almost increased the lead at the start of the second half, but the visiting keeper pulled off a fine save to deny him.

Cameron Ebbutt went close to opening his account when he fired a free kick into the defensive wall, picked up the rebound and saw his second attempt blocked at the expense of a corner.

Rovers continued to enjoy a great deal of possession the Academy side kept a lot of men behind the ball which cut down on the number of goalscoring opportunities.

Ebbutt created a chance for himself on 70 minutes, but fired an angled drive high over the bar and the same player and Broom hit long range efforts straight at the keeper. Connor Jones, on as a second half substitute and playing at right back, went close after a run that took him the length of the pitch before seeing his shot drift just wide of the upright.

Broom then headed over when well placed, while Josh Brace went close with a curling left foot shot that was saved by the keeper.

Rovers were awarded a penalty on 85 minutes when Broom was tripped in the area and got up to hit the resulting spot kick low into the net.
