As the club competed in the conference, Ellis enjoyed his most fruitful season in career to date, netting 17 goals as Rovers made an immediate return to the fourth tier of English football.
He featured again heavily the campaign after that, helping the club earn back to back promotions and secure League One football; in which he would score nine goals.
In his latest season with Rovers, he clocked up his most amount of appearances in one campaign, pulling on the blue and white quarters 49 times and getting on the scoresheet 14 times as he was nominated for the Players’ Player of the Year award.
Manager Darrell Clarke had this to say on his departure; “Ellis has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years and I’d like to thank him for all his efforts during his time here.”
“He will be more sorely missed on and off the pitch and I wish him every success in the future.”
