As sponsors of Bristol Rovers Womens’ FC we were absolutely delighted to see them crowned as champions of the Gloucestershire County Womens’ Football League.

They went into Sunday’s final league game of the season needing a victory over Abbeymead Rovers Ladies to secure the title but the news came through early on Sunday morning that Abbeymead were not able to raise a team and would be forfeiting the fixture, and the points.

Our girls were cruelly denied the title last season as the first lockdown started when they were just one win from winning the title. This season has been a strange affair with everyone playing each other just once in an effort to get the season completed and we pay tribute to the Gloucestershire County Womens’ Football League for this.

For a club that was only formed two years to go through two campaigns unbeaten speaks volumes and their success is fully deserved. We can only hope that the powers that be see sense and allow our girls to be promoted and test themselves at a higher level.

It is not all about what happens on the pitch. This season has been spectacularly successful off the pitch too. A successful partnership with Bristol Pride has been forged which led to the highly successful away shirt. Football sessions for girls in the community and their outreach work in the community during the pandemic has been phenomenal which culminated in Georgia Vandries winning a Community Champion award.

As sponsors we cannot wait for the next part of their incredible journey.
