Defender James Clarke, offered a new deal, has agreed to sign up for a longer stay.

The defender, born on 17th November 1989 in Aylesbury, initially joined the club on 10th June 2015.

In the last two seasons he has started 61 matches overall and been a playing substitute 5 times.

Although he has scored goals in pre-season friendlies his goal scoring record is on a par with the young Yatesy.

He has been booked just six times despite his noticeable grappling techniques at set-ball situations.

In 2015/16 he was booked in 4 away matches, including the two Oxbridge sides and Wycombe Wanderers.

During his 23+3 appearances in 2016/17 he was booked in just two home fixtures, including Oxford United again.

His versatility and adaptability playing in defence is invaluable to Bristol Rovers and will continue to be so.

James Clarke was Darrell Clarke’s first signing following the return of Bristol Rovers to the Football League.

He has previously played for Oxford United, Oxford City, Salisbury FC and Woking. His signing will be welcomed by Bristol Rovers supporters who appreciate his whole-hearted and committed displays.
