THE GAME

A poor home display by Rovers saw them slip to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers, whose winning goal came in the sixth minute of time added on.

First half chances were few and far between for both sides, but Rovers took the lead on 17 minutes with their only meaningful effort in that opening 45 minutes. Club captain Scott Sinclair was the scorer, beating goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli after being played in by Ruel Sotitiou.

The visitors upped the tempo after the break and went on to dominate proceedings as Rovers appeared content to sit back and defend their lead. It made for an uncomfortable watch and it came as little surprise when Wycombe equalised 13 minutes from time. Played in by Aaron Morley, defender Dan Harvie beat Josh Griffiths with a superb curling shot from the edge of the area.

Worse was to come as Wycombe scored again with just seconds of the six added minutes remaining. Poor defending from Morley’s corner out on the left allowed Joe Low to muscle his way through a crowded area and head home from close range.

THEY SAID WHAT?

‘The players were complaining about the winning goal, but I can’t stand here and use it as an excuse because there’s enough big bodies and markers in there to take care of that situation. (Rovers manager Matt Taylor)

‘It was up to us to ride it out and take a point after they equalised. The late goal just killed us, though, and it’s tough to accept.’ (Rovers goalkeeper Josh Griffiths)

‘I had a feeling that Joe was going to score today and I warned him not to get booked as he did last year when he celebrated in front of Rovers supporters.’ (Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield)
