EFL Youth Alliance Merit League ONE.

2016/2017 Season.

Bristol Rovers Under 18 Academy played two home matches in the last week. In both fixtures they suffered disappointing defeats.

On Tuesday 25th April 2017 Stevenage ran out 4-1 winners and on Saturday 29th April 2017 Swindon Town went nap without reply

This poor result against The Robins contrasts with the three previous encounters in the early part of the season. In the three early season matches the contests were much more even. The results for the matches against The Wiltshire Robins were:

Tuesday 30th August 2016 Swindon Town A 1-2 L. YA Cup Round One. Scorer – Lewis Ellington.

Saturday 8th October 2016 SWINDON TOWN H 3-2 W. Scorers – Lewis Ellington (2), and James Spruce.

Saturday 7th January 2017 Swindon Town A 3-3 D. Scorers – Lewis Ellington (2) and Luke Russe.

There is just one tough Merit League ONE fixture left for the Bristol Rovers Under 18 Academy side. A long trip to Southend United next weekend brings the season to a close.

Bristol Rovers Under 18 Academy final match this season is:

Saturday 6th May 2017. Southend United v Bristol Rovers 13:00.

The results of the fixtures in Merit League One played on Saturday 29th April 2017 were:

Bristol Rovers 0 v 5 Swindon Town.

Cambridge United 1 v 4 Plymouth Argyle.

 Luton Town 3 v 0 Stevenage.

 Exeter City 3 v 4 Newport County.

 Leyton Orient 3 v 2 Gillingham

The Newport County Under 18 Academy side are now confirmed as the winners of the YA Merit League ONE.

They have won all five of their AWAY fixtures by the odd goal; in many cases having conceded first.

They had finished fifth in the YA South West while Bristol Rovers were Runners-Up.

Swindon Town and Stevenage, the last two opponents are fighting for second place.

The final league table does not make for comfortable viewing but results are just part of the overall picture.
